Because touch free is best

It’s all about the tip

One of the secrets to getting the best touch up finish possible is the ability to apply the paint to the vehicle without touching the vehicle. To put it slightly differently, paint with the paint not the applicator.

The classic and best example of this is a brush. When applying paint with a brush you are essentially wiping it on, the brush contacts the panel. In the process any flake in the paint gets dragged, flattened and layered and that is highly undesirable. The final appearance is very unlike the factory finish.

Because the factory paint is “sprayed” on by one means or another the flake in the paint settles in a random arrangement. The flake in the paint most often stands up rather than lying flat and it therefore doesn’t layer. Using anything that contacts the panel in the same way will have the same problem as a brush.

Our Applicators are designed so that just the droplet of paint touches the panel, somewhat like an ink jet printer. Because only the paint goes onto the panel the paint is not disturbed by the application method and, as with the spray method, the paint settles and dries in an undisturbed with the flake in a random pattern. Check out our video, the vehicle is a solid colour but you will see how I keep the tip off the surface.

The above isn’t an issue for clear coat of course, but you still want to keep the repair area as small as possible so using the same application method makes sense.

If you feel an absolute need to rest your Applicator tip against the panel the use the angled tip so that you can have the paint trailing the tip and thereby still leaving it undisturbed.
