Q: What happens if the paint isn't the right colour?

A: We will replace it for you at no cost to you. We will need to know in what way it isn't right so that we can choose a closer variant than the one you have. If we send a second colour and it still isn't right we will refund your money in full.

Q: How long will the paint last?

A: The paint needs to be kept in a cool, dry place in the glass bottle in which it arrived (not your glove box). Under those conditions it should last a year, often much longer than that.

Q: Can I reuse the Applicator, how do I clean it?

A: Rinse it thoroughly with general purpose automotive thinner and you will be able to use it multiple times. Replacement tips and Applicators are available individually from this site.

Q: Can I get another colour for my other car, or do I need to buy another kit?

A: There should be enough clear coat in a bottle to do multiple cars so if you need another colour you can order an individual colour without ordering a full kit. We do advise that you also order a second Applicator and use each Applicator for the colour that it was bought for. This is because the Applicators will usually retain some colour on them even after being cleaned.

Q: What do I do if my tip has dry paint in it, how do I clean it?

A: You won't be able to clean a tip once it has dried out, it is too fine. We suggest that you put some tape over the tip or bend the tip over when you throw it out to minimise the risk of someone being pierced by it.

Q: How long should I wait between coats?

A: In warm weather when your panels are warm you can do the next coat after a couple of hours. If the weather is cool and or damp then use a hair dryer to make sure the panel is both warm and dry before you start. You can then do the follow up layer fairly soon after.

Q: What should I clean the damage with first?

A: Ideally use mineral wax and grease remover. If you don't have any you can use automotive detergent. Your paint may be left a little smudgy but wait until your repair is complete and dry before you polish it clean. If you use detergent and water use a hair dryer to make sure the damage is dry before you paint it.

Q: What happens if the repair finishes above the level of the panel?

A: Leave if for a few days before you do anything. The paint will shrink over time and you need it to be fully dry and hard before you do anything else to it. In due course we will add a video to show how to level a repair to get a truly professional finish.

Q: Are those scratch repair pens that you see on T.V. any good?

A: In one word, in my opinion, no. There are two reasons for that answer. Firstly the tip of the pen is typically either like a felt tip pen or like a ball point pen. In either case your applicator needs to make contact with the panel. This means the tip of the pen disturbs the flake in the paint and changes the way it looks, and most colours do have flake in them. Our Applicators are specifically designed so that you can apply the paint without making contact with the car thus the paint goes on undisturbed and leaves a much better finish. In the case of the felt tip type pens, they tend to leave your car looking like a slug has crawled over it. Not nice.
